Windpipe and Lungs

Wind Pipe: The trachea is a wide, hollow tube that connects the larynx (voice box) to the bronchi of the lungs, allowing the passage of air to the lungs.

The trachea extends from the larynx and branch into two primary bronchi. The bronchi than divides into smaller and smaller branches(branchioles).

The bronchioles enter the lungs and divide further into fine branches called alveolar ducts. This opens into extremely thin walled, grape shaped air sacs, where the exchange of gases takes place  called  alveoli. Each alveoli is covered by a web of blood capillaries which helps in exchange of gases between lungs and the body parts.

Lungs: The lungs are the primary organs of the respiratory system in humans. The lungs are a pair of spongy, air filled organs located on the either side of the chest (thorax). Human have two lungs, a right lung and a left lung. They are situated with in the thoracic cavity of the chest. The right lung is bigger than the left, which share space in the chest with the heart. The lungs are present in the cavity called as  plueral cavity  and covered with  double plueral membrane.   The right lung consist of three chambers whereas left lung is consist of two chambers. Thoracic muscles help in the expension and relaxation of lungs during the process of breathing.
